Lost Valley Love Stories: Lucy & Lucas

Some weddings are beautiful because of the flowers, the colors or the setting. And then there are weddings where every little detail tells you something about the couple. Lucy and Lucas’s wedding was both.

From the beginning of planning their wedding reception at Lost Valley in Auburn, Maine, Lucy and Lucas wanted their celebration to feel personal. Their faith, friendships, favorite pastimes, schools, love of hockey and years of memories together all found their way into their wedding day.

As Event Manager at Lost Valley, I loved watching this wedding evolve. We were creating something that felt like Lucy and Lucas.

Starting With What Matters Most

Before guests ever arrived at Lost Valley, Lucy and Lucas began their wedding day somewhere incredibly meaningful to them: Holy Family Church in Lewiston. Their faith has played an important role in their relationship, so exchanging their vows surrounded by family and friends reflected the foundation they had built together.

From there, the celebration moved to Lost Valley—and that’s where we got to have some fun.

Peacock Colors, Wildflowers & Playing Cards

The colors for this wedding were so good.

Rich peacock and jewel tones ran throughout the reception, with textured table runners adding beautiful depth against the neutral linens. Using DIY flower buckets from Little River Flower Farm, we worked collaboratively on collections of bud vases filled with colorful florals. The result was relaxed while still feeling intentional, and completely unique to their wedding.

Lucy and Lucas enjoy playing card games together, so framed playing cards took the place of traditional table numbers. It was such a simple idea, but it immediately connected the design back to something they enjoy together.

Personalization doesn’t necessarily mean putting your names or initials on everything. Sometimes it’s one subtle detail that makes the people who know you best think, “That is SO them.”

Where Should We Send the Newlyweds?

As hockey fans, Lucy and Lucas invited guests to vote on honeymoon destinations, with potential trips incorporating hockey games along the way. Guests could participate, debate their choices and have a little fun helping influence the adventures awaiting the newlyweds.

Vintage suitcases, patterned ballot boxes, framed signage and florals made the entire display part of the reception décor.

A Menu Designed Around Comfort

Personalization didn’t stop with the décor. Lucy and Lucas joined us at Lost Valley for a menu tasting so we could work through their selections together. They wanted food that felt warm, comforting and welcoming.

Their final menu included hors d’oeuvres during cocktail hour, followed by chicken roulade, steak tips, herb potatoes, broccolini, honey carrots, salad and fresh rolls. Dietary needs and allergies were also an important part of our planning process.

With Lost Valley providing the reception venue, catering and bar service, we could coordinate the food and beverage experience as part of the overall wedding plan. Having those pieces working together helped us carry their ideas through from the tasting to the reception.

Signature Drinks With a Story

Their signature drinks incorporated nods to their schools, friendships and different chapters of their relationship.

The cocktail itself is fun, but the story behind it is what makes people remember it. For future couples, think about the place you met, your hometown, a favorite trip or a memory you share. Your bar can tell part of your story, too.

When it came time to toast the newlyweds, champagne was accompanied by sparkling cider for younger guests so everyone could participate.

Details From Head to Toe

And yes, even the shoes had personality. Lucy and Lucas wore matching custom Nikes on their wedding day. Among the dress, flowers, jewelry and formalwear, those coordinating sneakers were such a fun reflection of the two of them.

Dessert had personality, too. Whisk and Butter created a painted floral wedding cake, topped with tiny bride-and-groom geese, alongside cupcakes, brownies, mini cannolis and a dedicated gluten-free option.

Live Music & One More Celebration

Wavelength Band provided cocktail-hour music and a five-person live band for the reception. With dinner finished, the room was full of people eating, drinking, laughing, dancing and celebrating two people they loved—which is ultimately what all those months of planning are for.

But the wedding didn’t end at Lost Valley. Guests continued the night at the family compound, where the reception transitioned into tacos, a fire, fireworks and s’mores.

Charter transportation was coordinated between locations throughout the day, allowing guests to enjoy the ceremony, reception and after-party without worrying about getting themselves from one place to the next.

What Future Couples Can Take From This Wedding

Lucy and Lucas didn’t personalize their wedding by putting their names on everything. They personalized it by putting their lives into it.

Faith, cards, hockey, signature drinks, wildflowers, live music, great food and matching Nikes. On paper, that’s a lot of different ideas. On their wedding day? It simply felt like them.
